2007 Annual Report
Approaching our 10 year anniversary, CWN!C found itself swimming through a sea of change in 2007!
After numerous meetings with other like-minded enviros, the LB Chamber of Commerce, LB Visitors & Conference Bureau plus long-time corporate sponsor Waste Management, we’ve cleared the way to progress our Keep Laguna Beautiful campaign. Conceived as an informal alliance or association by Founder Roger E. Butow (see 2006 Annual Report), we’ve procured web domain rights plus the Fictitious Business Name (FBN) in Orange County to assist this process. This will hopefully become a “Big Green Umbrella” under which ecologically aware protectionists will find shelter and encouragement in a positive, collaborative atmosphere. All accomplished without surrendering their unique identities and the personal mission statements of their group.
As change is all we can ever really predict, we’ve restructured our board, pared it down to be leaner but more effective. Founding Director Scott Woodard of The Whaleman Foundation (www.whaleman.org) continues to bring his business-like attitude and no-nonsense approach to our endeavor. The Whaleman Foundation is a renowned, highly respected international 501 c 3 with impressive victories, one of which was the stopping of a desalination plant in the sensitive marine reserve at San Ignacio Lagoon, Baja Sur Mexico. This is the site where the California Gray Whales breed, calve and nurse their young.
CWN!C Founding Director and our Eco-Ambassador James (Jamo) Pribram of the Aloha School of Surfing (www.alohaschoolofsurfing.com) has gone global in his educational outreach and personal commitment to Planet Earth. Jamo has been on the road a lot this year, integral in passionately raising awareness about the decimating effects of urbanization, not to mention blatant abuses of our marine ecologies. In October, he and his other “Eco-Warrior” brothers and sisters confronted Japanese fishermen (City of Taiji) who openly, and with the government’s permission, butcher whale and dolphins in full view of the horrified and appalled cetacean preservationists ----The Whaleman Foundation Founder and Executive Officer Jeff Pantukhoff among them.
Formerly beach cleanup supervisors, new board members Chris and Karen Williams of Soul Surfing School, Soul Adventures Inc., and Walking On Water (www.soulsurfingschool.com) have offered to spearhead our local youth programs, networking and educating church groups. They and their sons, like Jamo, travel extensively throughout Southern California, and Hawai’i, pledged to spread our core values as part of their Christian ministry. To be successful, CWN!C needs to carry our message, and live it too, as far and wide as we possibly can. Welcome aboard!
CWN!C dreams large, and we hope to continue being visionaries in the vanguard of social reforms that reverse eco-degradations wherever we go. Nature isn’t just a place to visit, it’s our home and where we commune with our Creator.
