2005 Annual Report
The Clean Water Now! Coalition wishes to
thank the incredible effort of our volunteers in the 2005 cycle of
beach cleanups. Over 1500 people participated in the Adopt-A-Beach
and Coastal Cleanup Day programs we administer for
the California Coastal Commission.
We cannot over-emphasize the gratitude we hold for those who have
supported us spiritually, logistically and financially, not to mention
the unsung heroes and heroines behind the scenes who donate their
precious personal hours to make us the award-winning program
in Orange County.
The totaled results of our cleanups reflect commitment on the part
of locals and inlanders alike to address the problems of human impact
resulting in polluted environs. This past year we removed tons of
debris from the tidal eco-systems of Laguna Beach, and according to
our poll, over 60% of our volunteers were from other zip or area codes.
To us, this means upstream recreational users are maturing, thus connecting
the dots about their responsibilities and personal accountability
regarding degradation of our locale.
Beginning in 2006, we intend to be more focused on the solution side
of the equation. Having spent the past 8 years educating the public
about water quality impairments, we're poised to translate our leadership,
higher profile and increasing regional credibility into an expanding
awareness of ecological problem solving.
We intend to support innovative emerging technologies
created by scientists from around the world that make a real difference,
with the potential of using several bundled together as treatment
trains.
We are also seeking more funds to facilitate a long held dream:
To export and share our unique, prototypical cleanup programs to other
communities. This was our original intent, feeling that the words
"Clean Water Now!" would become a rallying
cry, a strident mantra to remind folks of the urgency we feel must
be brought to environmental protection. Natural, toxin-free habitats
are the right of all living things, and we'll be working diligently
to make a difference where we can.
We, the Clean Water Now! family, invite you to join
us and attend one of our cleanups. Or consider networking us with
companies, corporations or individuals who share our vision
and are looking for specific, tangible ways to help. Feel free to
evaluate our referenced technologies and make up your own mind.
After all it is you and your children's future
at stake.
